UT Dementia Clinic — Driving Simulator
Volunteer project
I volunteered on a driving-simulator project for UT Dementia Clinic, developing scenarios to support research into reaction time in patients with dementia.
The challenge
The clinic used an older Virage simulator with limited documentation. Before I could create new scenarios, I needed to understand how its existing software and libraries worked.
What I worked on
I investigated undocumented libraries and analyzed a legacy binary to understand the simulator's configuration. I used AI tools to help interpret unfamiliar code and assist with decompilation, then developed new driving scenarios for the research workflow.
Supporting research
My contribution was the simulator software and scenario development. The work was intended to give researchers scenarios for measuring reaction time; the clinical study and its findings were outside my role.
